Sarah grew up in a small town in England. She went to college in Northampton, Buckinghamshire and received a diploma in Graphic Design, then went on to gain a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication at the University of Wolverhampton.
After graduation Sarah wanted to travel, and so came to Canada on a 1 year work visa. She was hired by The Globe and Mail in their Marketing Art department. She ended up working there for 8 years, leaving to go freelance.
Through her freelance work Sarah started to work with plastic surgeons to create a website for patients considering plastic surgery. The websites were to profile surgeons across Canada, have procedure info and forums where patients can talk and support eachother. The first site was launched in 2002.
For many years Sarah has helped to educate the public about the importance of going to a qualified plastic surgeon for any plastic surgery procedure. Currently in Canada any person with a license to practice medicine can perform plastic surgery, and this has lead to many non-plastic surgeons advertising these procedures. A death in Toronto of a woman who visited a non plastic surgeon for liposuction was a sad reminder of the importance of choosing the right surgeon. As well as the websites, Sarah has managed a print ad campaign to help raise awareness, with print ads in many Canadian magazines such as Hello and Lou Lou.
14 years after the first site was launched Sarah still enjoys designing the sites, and writing about different plastic surgery procedures. She also likes to write about other medical procedures, you can view some of these articles here:
