Lip Augmentation in Canada

Lip augmentation is a procedure to plump up lips and there are a variety of techniques available. The more common are temporary lip injections like Restylane and Juvederm that contain hyaluronic acid which is eventually reabsorbed in the body.

Fat injection is another technique for lip augmentation. With fat injections the surgeons takes some excess body fat from an area like the tummy or thighs using a fine liposuction instrument. The fat is then prepared and concentrated and injected into the lip. The result is a permanent enhancement of the lip with no risk of allergic reactions or possible problems.

Lip implants used to be available, but are rarely offered in Canada anymore due to problems with lumps and uneveness. Each plastic surgeon has their own lip augmentation technique so consult with a plastic surgeon in your area to find out what procedure is best for you.

Temporary lip injections, like many non-surgical procedures, do not have to be performed by a plastic surgeon, but care should be taken when choosing a clinic. Some clinics may have estheticians with no medical training at all performing lip injections so it is important you carefully choose who to perform your treatment. Many Canadian plastic surgeons have medical aesthetic staff performing lip injections at their clinics. Fat transfer should be performed by a plastic surgeon.
