Laser Skin Resurfacing in Canada

Laser skin resurfacing is a treatment which removes the outer layers of your skin unveiling fresh new skin. It is used to reduce wrinkles, lines, blemishes, uneven skin and in some cases to improve acne, facial scars and to remove pre cancerous growths.

Laser skin resurfacing is usually performed in a surgeon’s office. You may be given sedation, local anesthetic, topical anesthetic or possibly general anesthetic. During the treatment the laser gently vaporizes the outer layer of skin revealing a layer of new, pink skin. Collagen production is stimulated in the underlying areas which improves the texture and tone of your skin. To a surgeon, the laser is like a scalpel, so they have
complete control of the procedure.

After the procedure your skin may be dressed and you will be swollen and red. The outer layer of the skin will peel and scab and the fresh skin will appear red then fade. It is important you avoid the sun and wear protection…not only during your recovery as the skin is very fragile but permenantly so not to damage the new skin.

A few important factors to consider before undergoing surgical skin procedures are skin colouring and medical history. Darker complexions and Asian skin may become permanently discoloured or blotchy. Those prone to allergic rashes or other skin reactions, or who get frequent fever blisters or cold sores, may experience a flare-up.

Laser skin resurfacing, like many non-surgical procedures, does not have to be performed by a plastic surgeon, but care should be taken when choosing a clinic as there are risks involved if the treatment is not performed with care. Many Canadian plastic surgeons have medical aesthetic staff performing laser skin resurfacing treatments at their clinics
